Whether looking for a place to get involved, stay active, or just have fun with friends and family, the Shelby Community YMCA offers just that and more, with programs for all ages and a focus on bringing neighbors together, the local Y continues to expand what it offers the community.

Led by Operations Director Kathy Workman and Branch Director Shari Crisan, this YMCA has built a welcoming environment for fitness and fellowship.

Located right in the heart of town at 1000 W. 233rd Avenue in Shelby, the YMCA’s doors are open Monday through Saturday (closed Sundays), with weekday hours that extend to 8 p.m. for those squeezing in exercise after work.

Inside the building, members can enjoy a Gymnasium, Wellness Center, and Community room, all filled with fun activities throughout the week with tons of offerings and here’s just a few examples from the summer schedule:

Bootcamp

Yoga

Circuit classes

YBox

Cardio dance

Adult games

Crochet club

Family craft nights

Similarly, the gym holds the high energy activities like open gym, pickleball, but there’s a few kids recess time and family cornhole games sprinkled in.

Memberships are available exclusively for the Shelby location, and rates vary by age and category, and the Y encourages anyone considering an upgrade to a full Crossroads YMCA membership for access to additional facilities to just ask about it.

Shelby Fire District memberships are also available in person at the Shelby Community YMCA.

Adding to making it a community, the Shelby Y hosts special events that draw families in for a good time like earlier this fall, when they hosted the Rotary Club of Lowell for a pickleball clinic and the coaches made it fun and energetic!

Up next is a festive celebration the whole community is invited to not miss out on:

Christmas Movie Night on Friday, Dec. 12 at 6 p.m., How the Grinch Stole Christmas, free for everyone with popcorn, cotton candy, slushies, and a grinchy craft, with pizza provided by the Shelby Fire Department.

Anyone who wants a full look at programs and membership details can find information on the Shelby tab of the Crossroads YMCA website, also available by phone at 219-264-0202 for questions or sign-ups.
