Quinette Hoskins, biological mother of Kira Lovelace, showers her 6-year-old grandson James Lovelace with love and affection after recalling the details of the night Kira Lovelace, her daughter and James’ mother, was killed on Friday, April 18, 2025 at the Muggins residence on Flint’s north side. Lovelace was killed in an unsolved hit-and-run in Flint in December. Her family is still seeking answers. Mayfield, 22, and Zachary Edwards, 22, entered no contest and guilty pleas in their respective cases. Mayfield pleaded no contest to second-degree murder, two felony firearm charges, arson, tampering with evidence and carrying a concealed weapon. Edwards pleaded guilty to second-degree murder. Mayfield allegedly shot Baker with a shotgun and .40 caliber weapon multiple times on a dirt trail near 2420 Grand Traverse Street in Flint, according to testimony at Edwards’ preliminary examination. Flint residents Jenifer Veloso and her partner Sarah Satkowiak (pictured left to right), as well as Sarah’s father Pete were traveling to different spots along the 10-mile course to photograph participants when racers flagged them down at the Crim Festival of Races.. All three have medical experience — even though they were only there to take photos. Unexpectedly, they became lifesavers. Through the help of attorney David Campbell and his team, Louisiana man John Reed, 76, was exonerated after spending more than two years in Michigan after U.S. Marshalls first arrested him on Jan. 23, 2023 for allegedly raping a woman in 1976. Reed, who maintained his innocence, cooperated with police while he was extradited to Flint, Mich., a place he hadn’t been to since 1972.
