A 22-year-old young man recently shared his long and honest fitness journey, explaining how he managed to shed 20 kilograms over a period of two and a half years, reducing his weight from 103 kilograms to 81 kilograms. Posting on the Fitness India subreddit, he opened up about the many challenges, setbacks, and lessons that shaped his transformation.

He described the process as anything but smooth. Over the past few years, he experienced several highs and lows, admitting that he slipped back into unhealthy habits two or three times. A demanding routine filled with night shifts, academic pressure, and examinations often disrupted his consistency. Despite these obstacles, he eventually achieved body recomposition and said he now feels lighter, more energetic, and mentally driven than ever before.

At present, he follows a structured routine, consuming around 1,800 calories daily with approximately 120 grams of protein. He works out three to four times a week, following a push-pull-legs split combined with cardio sessions. His daily step count averages around 10,000, although some days go as high as 25,000 steps while others barely reach 3,000 or 4,000. His supplement intake is minimal, limited to whey protein and creatine. With his current progress, he is now aiming to reach a target weight of 75 kilograms.
In the comments section, he elaborated on why the journey took over two years instead of a few months. During the initial phase, he lacked proper knowledge about nutrition and training. In his first year, he dropped down to 77 kilograms, which was his lowest weight, but the approach was unhealthy. He ignored protein intake completely, relied heavily on excessive running, and survived on just one or two meals a day. While the weight loss came easily, it left him extremely weak.

Things took a turn when he stopped dieting to focus on exam preparation. Months of studying without workouts led to significant weight regain, and by the time his exams ended, the scale showed 90 kilograms. His habits worsened, and by March–April 2025, his weight had climbed to 92–93 kilograms.

That period marked a serious reset. He began tracking calories carefully and ensured his protein intake stayed above 110 grams daily. Losing the next 10 kilograms took nearly 10 months and proved mentally exhausting, as the scale barely moved despite strict discipline. However, he believes that phase helped him lose fat while building muscle. Instead of obsessing over weight, he monitored strength and body measurements, noting dramatic improvements, such as progressing from barely managing a few push-ups to completing over 40 in one attempt and performing multiple pull-ups.
