Lucknow: Korean skin treatments and facials, known as K-beauty, are seeing a rise in demand in Lucknow and other tier-II cities of Uttar Pradesh, reflecting a change in skin care choices among young women and working professionals. The trend came up for discussion at the annual conference of the All-India Cosmetologists and Beauticians Association (AICBA), held on Sunday.Doctors and beauty professionals at the conference said enquiries for Korean-style treatments increased over the past 2 years. Clinics in Lucknow now receive around 25 to 30 queries a day, with 2 to 3 clients opting for these procedures daily. They said that until a few years ago, awareness about such treatments was limited, but social media, Korean pop culture and online beauty content played a key role in spreading information. Experts explained that K-beauty treatments differ from regular facials. While traditional facials often focus on quick results, Korean therapies aim at hydration, skin repair and texture improvement over time. These involve multiple layers of serums, masks and light products designed to support skin health.Dr Rama Srivastava, cosmetologist and conference organiser, said products and techniques developed by Korean cosmetic companies are now being used in smaller cities. “The focus is on natural radiance and skin care through the use of serums, sunscreens and other products that work gradually,” she said. Plastic surgeon Prof AK Singh said procedures such as PDRN therapy, also called salmon DNA treatment, and exosome-based therapies are also being discussed in clinics. “These are meant to help skin repair, collagen formation and texture, but they must be done only under medical supervision,” he said. He also warned that not all treatments suit every skin type and that proper assessment by trained professionals is necessary.Cost remains a concern. Beauticians said Korean facials are priced higher than regular ones, ranging from Rs 5,000 to Rs 15,000 per session, depending on the products and procedures used. Despite this, demand is growing among college students, young professionals and brides.Mumbai-based specialist Pragna Vedant and Dr Deepti Jain said Korean make-up styles are also gaining acceptance. Experts said the spread of K-beauty in cities such as Lucknow, Kanpur and Prayagraj points to a change in local beauty practices, supported by workshops and training sessions across the state.
