Teyana Taylor didn’t just walk the Golden Globes carpet. She owned it.

The Schiaparelli gown did its part, a sculptural black silhouette punctuated by a flash of rhinestone “party in the back” — as she took home best supporting actress for “One Battle After Another.” But the beauty locked everything in.

Behind it was New York-based makeup artist Mayerling “May” Cintron, known online as @bellamayven, who was still absorbing the speed of the day when she spoke to WWD.

“I finally settled in,” she said. “It’s been crazy, but it’s been so worth it.”

Cintron had been with Taylor since New Year’s Eve, moving through a tightly packed stretch of awards-season appearances.

“It’s been a crazy week with all of these awards and luncheons,” she went on. Every day brought a new look, plan and level of pressure — particularly since Cintron was stepping in for Taylor’s primary makeup artist, Yeika.

“I’ve been filling in for her,” she explained. “I want to credit her. I’ve been thanking her. I’m just so appreciative.”

For Cintron, makeup always starts with the clothes, and for the Globes, one detail changed everything.

“I first saw the dress [in a photo] — I was with her in the car — and I was like, ‘This is so iconic,’ especially with the thong,” she said of Daniel Roseberry’s custom haute couture creation. “As you saw, it was a diamond thong.”

The asymmetrical satin gown, with draping and a scarf neckline, was finished with a bow-shaped, silver-rhinestone bijou that became the roadmap. That flash of sparkle pushed Cintron toward cool-toned shimmer, heightened definition and makeup designed to hold its own against the statement cut.

She saw the gown in person at a Schiaparelli fitting the day before the Globes, and again the morning of when the team gathered for final checks.

Skin was the priority, starting well before makeup. Taylor had a facial earlier in the day with Iván Pol of The Beauty Sandwich, which Cintron said made an immediate difference.

“They did a phenomenal facial,” she said. “Even when I was doing her makeup, I was like, ‘Wow, you just look so snatched.’”

The prep allowed Cintron to lean into her preferred finish: controlled, polished and luminous without excess shine. The look was built through a partnership with Charlotte Tilbury, with Cintron using the brand across skin, eyes, lips and body.

Product highlights included Glow Toner, Charlotte’s Magic Cream and Collagen Superfusion Facial Oil for prep. The complexion was completed with Airbrush Flawless Foundation in 10 Warm, Airbrush Flawless Blur Concealer in shades 8 and 10 and Airbrush Flawless Finish in shade 3, set with Airbrush Flawless Setting Spray and finished with Hollywood Flawless Filter in shade 8 for targeted luminosity. Eye makeup featured the Palette of Beautifying Eye Trends in Super Neutral, The Feline Flick in Panther and Exagger-Eyes Volume Mascara. And lips were defined with Lip Cheat in Foxy Brown paired with Big Lip Plumpgasm in Nudegasm Diamonds.

Tools are as essential as products for Cintron, who used her own sculptural sponge from Tuhlz, her direct-to-consumer beauty tools brand that also sells on Amazon. “It really lets me get into the cheek and add that glow in a way that looks intentional,” she said. “If I don’t use my sponge, I honestly feel like I can’t do my work.”

The cheeks were finished with a peach-toned blush and kept structured yet radiant.

“It’s always a matte face, and then in the end, we go in and add a little luminosity,” Cintron said. “So the skin is matte, but it’s highlighted in the high points, like the cheeks, the forehead, anywhere where the light would hit.”

For the eyes, “Teyana loves very dramatic wings, and she loves a very heavy bottom liner,” she said. The result, Cintron explained, was “a double wing, like an Egyptian type of look.”

Lips were treated with the same level of intention.

“I take my pride in a good lip combo,” she said. “Sometimes I can literally take up to 10 minutes doing a lip.” Shimmer was nonnegotiable. “I really wanted a sparkly lip gloss,” she added. “Everything comes back to the sparkly thong.”
