Warren County Nutrition continues to provide meal services and wellness checks to seniors and residents with disabilities throughout Warren County, serving both communities and rural areas since 1978.
The program delivers meals to individuals who are unable to prepare food for themselves or have difficulty leaving their homes. While Carlisle continues to offer an in-person congregate meal site five days a week, Indianola and Norwalk now operate as delivery-only locations. Warren County Nutrition Director Marty Davis tells KNIA News meal delivery is consistent throughout the week, and the consistency is important.
“We deliver Monday through Friday, weather events excluded. Any day the county is open, we deliver meals. It’s not just a meal, it’s a welfare check.”
In addition to meal delivery, the program serves rural residents across the county. The service is designed primarily for residents ages 60 and older, individuals with disabilities, and caregivers of qualifying individuals, with eligibility determined based on need.
Warren County Nutrition serves approximately 300 to 325 clients each month and employs nine staff members. Along with providing meals, delivery drivers also conduct brief wellness checks, helping ensure clients are safe and accounted for during regular deliveries.
