Columbus Community Hospital is celebrating 10 years of Rehab Services at the Columbus Wellness Center. This marks a decade of expanded access to specialized therapy care, innovative programming and measurable growth in services for the community.
Since opening in November 2015, Rehab Services at the Wellness Center has evolved into a comprehensive therapy destination offering physical, occupational and speech therapy. It also provides specialty programs designed to help patients return to the activities they love and need to do every day.
Over the past decade, Rehab Services has expanded its footprint, staff and scope of care. The department now occupies 9,475 square feet within the Wellness Center, including a 2,080-square-foot addition completed in 2023. The team has grown to more than 30 therapists and support staff members, reflecting an increase in patient demand and service offerings.
Rehab Services at the Wellness Center has experienced significant growth in patient volume, with physical therapy visits increasing by 124%, occupational therapy visits by 92% and speech therapy visits by 86% since it opened. Today, the department sees more than 1,900 patient visits each month.
In addition to traditional outpatient therapy, Rehab Services offers specialized programs that address complex and often underserved needs, including:
Thrive Cancer Rehabilitation CareSM, which helps patients manage and overcome side effects of cancer treatment.
The Parkinson’s Wellness Program, featuring evidence-based therapies such as Rock Steady Boxing, SPEAK OUT!® and PWR!Moves®.
Aquatic therapy in a warm-water pool, which supports recovery from joint replacement, neurological conditions, arthritis and more.
Comprehensive women’s health physical therapy, addressing pelvic floor dysfunction, pre- and post-partum conditions and breast cancer side effects.
Certified hand therapy for complex upper extremity injuries.
A key strength of Rehab Services is its partnership with the Columbus Family YMCA, which allows patients to transition from medically necessary therapy into long-term wellness programming. Therapist-instructed exercise classes, LIVESTRONG at the Y, SpineFit and Rock Steady Boxing help support a continuum of care beyond discharge from therapy.
As Rehab Services enters its second decade at the Wellness Center, now enhanced by proximity to the Columbus Fieldhouse, the department remains focused on patient-centered care and long-term community wellness.
