Growing up, Christian Guzman’s mother, Manuela Guzman, ran her own business in Missouri City called Homemade Gourmet. Christian Guzman said she would cook sandwiches and cakes in her kitchen every morning and then deliver them to local businesses, such as hair salons.

Manuela Guzman had been supportive of her son’s growing career in the fitness industry and would drive around with him as he searched for potential gym locations. When Christian Guzman began designing Alphaland, he said he knew that he wanted to bring his mom into the business.

“The goal was always to get my mom involved with the gym and then get her a kitchen—like a commercial kitchen—to let her kind of expand on that business,” Christian Guzman said. “So when I walked this property and found that they had a commercial kitchen, that just felt like all signs pointing to do it.”

A closer look

As they created the concept of the cafe, Christian Guzman said he wanted the space to match the look of Alphaland.

“AlphaEats is the same font [as Alphaland], but we added eats,” Guzman said. “Everything is sort of a very specific look … even the offices and the furniture and the carpets and everything sort of started tied together, and I just wanted to lean into that.”
