Supernatural is the virtual-reality music-fitness service that launched as an independent app by developer Within in 2020. It was then acquired in 2023 by Meta, albeit after some regulatory hurdles.
Since then, Supernatural has sat within Meta’s VR offering alongside another music-driven app, Beat Saber. However, it seems the end of the road is now approaching.
“Today we are sharing an important update about changes to Supernatural,” explained an email sent to users this week. “Supernatural will no longer receive new content or feature updates.”
However, the app isn’t being shut down just yet. “Supernatural will remain active so you can continue your fitness journey with all currently available content,” explained the email.
This is part of wider cuts within Meta’s Reality Labs division, as acknowledged by Supernatural head of operations Lynnette Scarratt in a LinkedIn post.
“Meta recently made some shifts in priorities and the Supernatural team was impacted,” she wrote, encouraging other companies to hire its laid-off staff. “An extraordinary group of people is now entering the market… If you’re hiring right now, look at this group.”
