Lichen planus is chronic muco-cutaneous disease of auto-immune origin, affecting around 0.2 – 2 % of the population. It could appear in the skin, in the oral mucosa or sometimes both. No one yet knows what exactly causes this disease and is generally considered to be auto-immune in nature. This short video explains in detail as to how lymphocytes are activated in patients with oral lichen planus and how these cells can cause destruction of the epithelium.
