Bodybuilding legend Frank Zane wants to see everyone level up in 2026. On Jan. 27, 2026, he shared how to maintain fitness and nutrition to reach your goals.
“Feeling like your fitness or nutrition progress is moving slowly—or not at all? Don’t let that discourage you! Every step forward, no matter how small, counts towards your journey. Consistency is key, and showing up for yourself is already an achievement. Set short-term goals you know you can achieve.”
Frank Zane won the Mr. Olympia contest three times, solidifying his legacy as an all-time great. Despite being outsized by many Open competitors, Zane’s aesthetics helped him dominate the landscape throughout the 1970s. During that era, he tested himself against mainstays of the sport, from Arnold Schwarzenegger to ‘The Quadfather,’ Tom Platz.
We’re at the point where New Year’s resolutions start to fall off, but Zane has a plan to protect progress. Whether it’s an extra set during a workout or skipping an unhealthy meal, he shows how to stack momentum, even when it’s just small changes.
Frank Zane Shares How to Reach Your Nutrition and Fitness Goals in 2026
In the Instagram post, Zane noted how minor tweaks to a routine can produce significant results.
“Maybe it’s squeezing in one more set of ab exercises, adding an extra two minutes of cardio, or choosing a healthy meal when it’s tempting not to. Every win deserves to be celebrated!”
He said to stick to reaching small goals and journal them, which can help individuals stay motivated.
“Try this: Each time you reach a small goal, give yourself a star in your journal. Over time, those stars add up and become a powerful reminder of what you’re capable of. Progress isn’t always measured on the scale or in the mirror; it’s the daily choices and efforts you make,” he said.

Though self-reliance is key to gym progress, Zane believes a workout partner can be a huge difference-maker. He noted that choosing a gym partner strategically can spur progress by picking someone with a similar physique and weak points.
At 83 years old, it’s evident that Zane’s on-and off-stage tactics helped him stay fit for decades. He believes setting small goals to achieve is the fastest way to improve your physique.
“Don’t give up. You’re stronger and more capable than you think. Let’s celebrate every victory, big or small.”
