SPOKANE, Wash. – The City of Spokane has received a $200,000 grant from the U.S. Conference of Mayors and American Beverage Association to expand The ZONE Spokane’s Youth Wellness Zone (YWZ).

A press release detailed that this grant will support the YWZ, which focuses on student-led mental health initiatives at On Track Academy.

“Our young people face very real challenges, but time and again, they have demonstrated that they are leaders with insight, resilience, and solutions of their own,” Mayor Lisa Brown said in the press release.

Chris Burke, Principal at On Track Academy, said the funds will support staffing, guest speakers, and youth projects.

James Rima, Member of the Spokane Tribal Council, emphasized, “There is no shame in asking for help with your mental health, you deserve to be happy, you are loved.”

The grant will enhance staff capacities, youth participation, and partnerships with local organizations.
