BENZIE COUNTY — A major new wellness and aquatic center could soon be coming to Benzie County, bringing indoor pools, fitness space, and year-round recreation opportunities to a community with limited indoor options.
Organizers say the Benzie Wellness and Aquatic Center has been a long-time goal for the region and is designed to serve residents of all ages and abilities. Plans include space for aquatics programming, wellness and fitness classes, and an indoor walking track — something supporters say could especially benefit seniors during the winter months.
Leaders behind the project say the facility would help fill gaps in recreation, health, and community programming, while also creating a central hub where residents can connect and stay active year-round.
Supporters also emphasize the project is not seeking a public millage, and instead plans to rely on private fundraising, philanthropic support, and partnerships to move forward.
The project is currently in its design and planning phase, with fundraising underway to complete the detailed work needed before construction can begin.
