Davie beauty student killed in murder-suicide ID’ed by friend
DAVIE, Fla. — The friend of a young woman killed earlier this week at a Davie beauty school identified the victim on Thursday as 20-year-old Aileen Martinez.
Martinez was a cosmetology student at the Aveda Institute, located along University Drive near Griffin Road.
Rachel Tracey, a close friend of Martinez, told Local 10 News that Martinez was working toward a lifelong dream of opening her own salon.
Outside the classroom, Martinez had a passion for rock music.
Loved ones say she performed with bands at events across Florida and was known for her energy and creativity.
Davie police said Martinez was shot and killed in the school’s parking lot Tuesday by an ex-boyfriend.
Authorities said the 25-year-old man, who then turned the gun on himself.
The suspected shooter, who hasn’t been identified as of Thursday night, was transported to a hospital, where he later died.
The family of Martinez set up a GoFundMe to help with funeral and burial arrangements.
A motive for the shooting is unclear at this time.
