The market is saturated with headphones, and there’s something available for every price range. From the high-end AirPods Max from Apple right through to budget sets from the likes of Canyon, it can be really difficult to find the right pair. Everyone’s preferences are different and sometimes you need different types of headphones for different activities. For example, I prefer AirPods Pros when I’m working out in the gym, but I’ll use the AirPods Max if I want to watch TV without disturbing anyone. One brand looking to offer something a little different is Jabees, whose 7Seven Bone Conduction Swimming Headphones are targeting swimmers and runners.
The first thing you notice about the Jabees 7Seven Bone Conduction Swimming Headphones is how light they are. The headphones hook over your ears and around the back of your head, and unlike most modern headphones, they don’t fit into your ear. Instead, they hover just in front which means there’s not chance that you’ll get throbbing ear sockets. Packaged with a secure fit loop, that allows users to tighten the fit around their head, the headphones are simple and pretty pleasing to the eye. But are they any good?
Jabees 7Seven Bone Conduction Swimming Headphones are easy to set up. Using the buttons on the headset, you can switch between Bluetooth and MP3 modes, depending on what you prefer. With Bluetooth you can take advantage of the Bluetooth 6.0 technology and connect to a device so you can listen to music. This is perfect for running or the gym, where you can pair to your phone. If you want to use the headphones for swimming, where it’s less practical to have your phone nearby, you can load MP3s onto them (there’s an impressive 32GB capacity). This makes the headphones a flexible choice and really ticks a lot of boxes for sporty people.
The sound of the headphones is pretty decent, whether you’re in water or on land. It doesn’t have the depth of the higher end headphones but it’s enough to do the job while you’re swimming or working out. Depending on the type of music you’re listening to, the sound can be a little tinny at times, and if you have the volume on high, the vibration of the headphones can be irritating. On lower volume there is no vibration but the vibration does kick in around the mid-point of the headphones’ range.
Making calls is similarly a bit tinny, but the headphones do the job. Gaming mode works well with a few presses of the Multifunction button reducing latency and offering a decent experience. A nice feature is the multi-point connection, which allows you to pair to more than one device. I’m not sure how often the average person will use this feature but it’s a nice-to-have.
As the headphones don’t actually slot into your ears, there’s also a substantial amount of sound leakage. While the headphones are surprisingly effective at blocking out external sound, anyone working out near you will be able to hear your music. That’s not the case with many other headphones on the market, so that’s a definite negative. The headphones also only last for around 5 hours on a single charge, making their performance less impressive than some of their competitors.
Jabees 7Seven Bone Conduction Swimming Headphones are an attractive proposition for their relatively low price point. Are they the best headphones of their kind on the market? No, but they are a solid choice for those with a modest budget who aren’t too concerned with having the highest quality sound. Adaptable and comfortable, the Jabees 7Seven Bone Conduction Swimming Headphones are ideal for those who just want a set of headphones for exercise, and there’s less worry about losing or damaging them given their much cheaper price point.
