The “mom pooch,” the stubborn little belly bulge that refuses to go away after pregnancy, is a reality for many new moms. Shedding pregnancy weight is a journey that happens gradually but for some new moms, it can be the slowest to go.
Even with healthy eating and regular activity, this stubborn belly bulge can linger for months. Recently, she shared how she’s been gently tackling the “mom pooch” with three simple exercises.
Sonnalli Seygall’s postpartum fitness journey
Seygall, who is known for her role in Pyaar Ka Punchnama, became a mother in 2024 after welcoming a baby girl. Recently, she shared a glimpse of her post-pregnancy fitness journey on Instagram.
In a video posted on January 29, she introduced a mini workout challenge through which she encouraged other new mothers to try these workouts to help reduce the stubborn belly bulge. “Mom pooch gang, where you at? Try this mini challenge, tag me, and let’s do this together,” she captioned the post.
Mini workout challenge
The first exercise is the reverse plank knee drive. For this, you need to lie on a yoga mat and lift your body in a reverse plank position by keeping your face upwards. Pull one knee at a time. This exercise works the deep core muscles, along with hamstrings, shoulders and back. It should be done for 20 seconds.
She then moved on to the second exercise, called the tabletop hold. In this position, the body forms a tabletop shape while lying on the mat, with the core muscles kept tight. This exercise targets the abdominal muscles and is helpful for reducing lower belly fat. Hold this position for 20 seconds.
The third and final exercise was the bridge with overhead reach, which she also performed for 20 seconds. In this move, the hips are lifted off the mat while the arms stretch overhead. This exercise helps strengthen the glutes and lower back.
Why is postpartum weight loss challenging?
“Many women experience postpartum weight retention (PPWR), which, if not managed, can lead to long-term weight gain and increased health risks such as obesity, diabetes, and cardiovascular disease,” said dietician Garima Goyal.
She explained that hormonal shifts, changes in daily routine, and a slower metabolism can make weight loss harder.
