Oakley and Meta have unveiled the Oakley Meta Vanguard, a new line of performance-focused AI glasses aimed at athletes engaged in high-intensity training and competition.

The glasses combine Oakley’s sports eyewear design with Meta’s AI software and hardware, marking the companies’ latest collaboration in wearable technology. The Vanguard is designed to be worn during endurance sports and outdoor activities, with features intended to support training, monitoring and content capture without the use of hands.

The frames include an integrated action camera, open-ear audio, and voice-controlled Meta AI. The 12MP camera offers a 122-degree field of view and can record video up to 3K resolution, alongside slow-motion, hyperlapse and stabilisation options. All capture functions can be activated using voice commands.

“Our Goal at Oakley is always to create for the future and deliver to the present,” said Caio Amato, Oakley Global president. “Oakley invented the sports performance category, now with Oakley Meta Vanguard we’re setting another new baseline for what is possible. We wanted to redefine what an eyewear could be by delivering Performance AI glasses, technological advancements that truly amplify human potential. And it’s a leap toward a new era of human possibilities.”

Fitness tracking is integrated with platforms such as Garmin and other major fitness apps. Athletes can request real-time performance data, including heart rate and pace, through voice prompts. A peripheral LED indicator provides visual feedback on selected metrics, allowing users to check progress without looking away from their activity.

Battery life is rated at up to nine hours of general use, with around six hours of continuous audio playback. The charging case extends total usage by up to 36 hours, and a quick-charge feature delivers around half the battery capacity in 20 minutes.

Audio is delivered through open-ear speakers designed to remain audible in windy or high-noise conditions. A five-microphone array is intended to improve voice clarity during calls and AI interactions, particularly outdoors.

The Vanguard glasses carry an IP67 dust and water resistance rating and are designed to be compatible with cycling helmets and sports headwear. Oakley’s Three-Point Fit system is used, with interchangeable nose pads to accommodate different face shapes.

The glasses also support Hindi-language voice commands through the Meta AI app, enabling users to control calls, messages, media and camera functions in Hindi. Additional India-focused features include support for UPI Lite payments via voice interaction. Meta has also added a celebrity voice option featuring Deepika Padukone to its AI assistant lineup.

The lenses use Oakley’s PRIZM technology, which enhances contrast and colour definition while providing protection from sun, wind and debris during outdoor activity.

Available at leading optical stores, Sunglass Hut and LensCrafters. Oakley Meta Vanguard begins at Rs 52,300.
