Having established itself as a producer of premium hair-styling gadgets, Dyson has been quietly building a range of premium haircare formulas to sit alongside those devices, and now there’s a new addition to the lineup: Dyson Amino. It’s a leave-in scalp treatment that’s designed to do all manner of great things for your hair, and it’s all thanks to a surprising ingredient: barley.
“Beauty and farming are not often thought of in the same breath… but we’ve brought them together to develop a product that unlocks healthy hair with quality ingredients,” brand founder Sir James Dyson says.
This foaming treatment is designed to help “protect, hydrate and strengthen all scalp and hair types”. Dyson claims it can reduce excess oils by 62%, visible flakes by 88%, and even minimize hair loss by 63%, based on the results of clinical studies in the US and Japan, with participants using the product daily for 12 weeks.

The secret ingredient is barley, which is grown on Dyson’s own farms and contains vitamins, minerals such as iron and zinc, as well as antioxidants, all of which have hair-health benefits.
“By growing barley on our farms, we’ve harnessed its amino acid profile to support scalp barrier function and hydration,” Sir James says. “It’s a powerful ingredient, naturally rich in nutrients, that provides the foundation for healthier hair.”
It’s not working alone though: it’s blended with 11 amino acids. “Dyson Farming has been exploring how the quality of ingredients – grown, tested and refined – can elevate performance in beauty. This formulation is different because it’s not just engineered, it’s cultivated,” Sir James adds.
The Amino is Dyson’s first scalp formulation. It sits alongside the brand’s Omega nourishing formulas (which use Dyson Farming’s sunflower seeds) and Chitosan styling products. It’s on sale from today at Dyson US and UK, with a list price of $54.99 / £46.
