The third annual Student Health & Wellness Fair took place at East/West Dining last Tuesday, Jan. 20.

Sixteen on- and off-campus partners had a booth at the fair, including organizations like HOTWORX and Wellbeing Initiative.

“My favorite booth was the chiropractor’s one because it was very interesting,” sophomore Nicole Kenney said. “They did a scanner thing on your neck to check for tension.”

The fair’s mission was to help encompass just some of the nine dimensions of wellness: physical, emotional, financial, spiritual, social, career, intellectual, creative and environmental.

“The [goal of the] event is to bring campus and community resources to campus with the hope of having all nine dimensions [of wellness] covered,” fair coordinator and Health & Wellness Director Andreea Baker said. “We don’t always have that, but the purpose is to really educate students on the resources that are here for them so that they can be well.”

Many booths gave out various goodies, including candy and even eyewear care bags. The first few students were encouraged to fill out a bingo card in exchange for a ticket into a raffle, which had wellness-related prizes.

“The message I got from the fair was that taking care of yourself, both physically and mentally, is important,” Kenney said, “that the surrounding community is here to support us, and they want to support us.”

Kenney was one of 134 students who passed through the fair.

“A message that I hope students took from this fair is that they are very well supported,” Baker said. “Aside from just having student health services here for them and counselling services, there are so many other resources for students here in Crete.”
