ONALASKA, Wis. (WKBT) — Community members laced up their sneakers for a heart-healthy start to the day as the Onalaska YMCA and Emplify Health by Gundersen hosted their third annual Heart Walk and Wellness Expo.
The event encouraged participants to walk the indoor track while stopping at expo booths along the way to pick up tips on heart health, nutrition and exercise. The collaborative effort aimed to promote cardiovascular wellness through education and physical activity.
“Your heart is what makes you beat, right? Without your heart, you wouldn’t be here, so we need to take care of it,” said Carley Buisman, manager of Integrated Center for Education at Emplify Health by Gundersen. “If we don’t take care of your heart, you’ll have issues down the line.”
Doctors and healthcare providers were on hand throughout the event to answer questions, share heart-healthy recipes and connect attendees with local health resources. The wellness expo provided community members with practical tools and information to support their cardiovascular health.
