“We will be fully renovating the Big Lots building into the newest evolution of Planet Fitness,” Delaney said. “The club will include almost 30,000 square feet of strength and cardio equipment, full locker rooms with showers, personal workout areas and our newest Black Card Spa.”

Delaney said construction is anticipated to begin in March 2026, with a projected opening window in the third quarter of 2026, pending unforeseen delays.

The Pelham location will include a range of amenities typically reserved for Planet Fitness Black Card members, including HydroMassage beds, tanning, red light therapy, massage chairs and a cryogenic lounger. Delaney noted the gym will also feature multiple personal workout areas and unique design elements not found in older Planet Fitness locations.

“We are excited to be building the next evolution of Planet Fitness, which will include unique elements that will be new and exciting for the community,” he said.

The project is expected to generate numerous construction jobs during the build-out phase and approximately 20 permanent positions once the gym opens. Delaney said Planet Fitness plans to hire locally, with hiring expected to begin sometime in the second quarter of 2026.

Delaney said Pelham was selected after the company identified a gap in the local fitness market.

“We saw a need to bring high-value fitness at a low cost to the Pelham community,” he said. “It was a hole in the market for us, and we have been wanting to open a club in this community for some time.”

He added that the gym’s design and amenities align with Planet Fitness’s mission of serving users of all experience levels.

“All Planet Fitness locations offer a judgement-free gym experience,” Delaney said. “This location will execute on that philosophy by offering first-class amenities to both casual and experienced gym users in a non-intimidating environment.”

Delaney noted that Planet Fitness machines include QR codes that link to instructional videos within the Planet Fitness app, and staff are trained to assist members with equipment use.

Memberships purchased at the Pelham location will be usable at more than 2,800 Planet Fitness locations nationwide through the Black Card program. While no promotions have been announced yet, Delaney said residents should expect more information as the opening approaches.

“We are thrilled to be joining the Pelham community and look forward to welcoming our new neighbors into the club to pursue their fitness goals,” he said.
