THE WHAT? Rare Beauty has appointed Joyce Kim as Chief Brand Officer and Ashley Murphy as Chief Marketing Officer, promoting two longtime executives to lead the brand’s next phase of growth.

THE DETAILS The appointments follow the departure of founding Chief Marketing Officer Katie Welch, who joined Chanel as US Head of Brand and Communications in January.

Joyce Kim, Rare Beauty’s founding Chief Product Officer, has stepped into the role of Chief Brand Officer. Prior to joining Rare Beauty, she held positions at L’Oréal-owned NYX Cosmetics, bringing extensive experience in product and brand development.

Ashley Murphy, who joined Rare Beauty ahead of its 2020 launch and most recently served as Vice President of Consumer Marketing, has been promoted to Chief Marketing Officer. Her previous experience includes roles at The Honest Company and Hourglass.

THE WHY? By promoting internal leaders deeply embedded in Rare Beauty’s ethos, the brand is aiming to preserve its identity and values while scaling operations, strengthening long-term brand equity, and adapting its marketing and innovation strategy to remain competitive in a fast-evolving beauty landscape.
