February, when cold snaps and relatively mild weather repeat, is a time when seasonal change can make it easier for stamina to drop and immunity to weaken.

As the school term approaches and children’s living environment and contact range widen, they can be easily exposed to various respiratory diseases such as colds and influenza. Experts advise special caution because growing children, whose immune systems are not yet fully mature, can be easily affected by even small environmental changes.

Young-mi Seo (서영미), director of Cheongdam Eden Clinic, advised that children’s immune function can easily weaken in late winter as they spend longer indoors and activity decreases. She said it is important, especially ahead of the school term, to keep basic daily rhythms steady, including enough sleep and regular meals. She added that because growing children can easily become deficient in certain nutrients such as vitamin D and zinc, they can consider supplementary health functional foods as needed, centered on a balanced diet.

The health functional food industry is also launching related products. Global healthcare company Hecto Healthcare continues to expand a lineup of tailored health management products for children through its premium probiotic brand De Simone and its health functional food brand Kim Seok-jinLAB.

In particular, the Kim Seok-jinLAB Kids line structured its products around nutritional elements needed for winter management, taking into account growing children’s daily patterns and ease of intake.

Products include the Kids Green Propolis Jelly, which combines green propolis from Brazil’s highlands with zinc to support oral health management and maintenance of normal immune function, and Vitamin D Drops 400IU, a drop-type product designed to help supplement vitamin D, which can become deficient as winter sunlight decreases.

Seok-jin Kim (김석진), chief executive of Hecto Healthcare, said managing children’s immunity is not something solved by a single ingredient, but is linked to overall balance in living environment and diet. He said Kim Seok-jinLAB will continue to strengthen tailored product offerings for children, considering everything from gut health to essential nutrient management, so that health management can take place naturally in children’s daily lives.
