SANTA CRUZ — Marion Nestle spoke Thursday night about the Trump administration’s recently released food pyramid as she speaks at the Cowell Ranch Hay Barn at UC Santa Cruz.
Nestle’s talk, “Sustainable Food in the Trump Era,” was this year’s Peggy Downes Baskin Ethics Lecture presented by the UCSC Humanities Institute. Nestle is the author of books such as the classic “Food Politics: How the Food Industry Influences Nutrition and Health,” “Safe Food: The Politics of Food Safety” and “What to Eat.”
She is the emerita Paulette Goddard Professor in the Department of Nutrition, Food Studies and Public Health, and professor of sociology at New York University and holds an appointment as visiting professor in the Cornell Division of Nutritional Sciences. Her degrees include a Ph.D. in molecular biology and a master’s in public health nutrition, both from UC Berkeley.
