The Pennbriar Athletic Club’s fitness center is closing at the beginning of March.
A sign on the front door of the fitness center building states that the Pennbriar Fitness Club at 100 Pennbriar Road will be closing the fitness facility permanently on March 1.
The sign states that new plans for the facility will be announced in the near future.
No reason was given for the closure of the fitness facility.

Representatives were not available to speak about the closure or future plans at the time. Calls to Denise Smith, the manager of operations, and emails to the facility were not returned.
Pennbriar is operated by Fitness Erie, Inc.

Just the fitness center closing
The sign on the door states only the fitness center at Pennbriar is closing in early March.
The Pennbriar Childcare facility, the Aine Celtic Academy School of Irish Dance and Erie Premier Sports will continue normal operations.

The Pennbriar fitness complex has been in operation for more than 40 years.
The Erie facility adopted the name Pennbriar Athletic Club after the merger of three clubs in 1987. The facility’s indoor tennis center first opened Sept. 1, 1974, originally operating as the Billie Jean King Tennis Center. The Erie facility’s indoor tennis center shut down operations in 2018.
