COLLEGE STATION, Texas (KBTX) – FYR Aggieland and the Texas A&M Brotherhood of Aggie Mentors are hosting Reps for a Reason, a fitness event that brings fitness, mentorship, and community together.

Reps for a Reason is Saturday, March 28 from 8:30 a.m. to noon at Sawed-Off CrossFit, located at 4000 Harvey Road in College Station.

The event is open to participants of all fitness levels, from beginners to experienced athletes. All proceeds benefit FYR Aggieland, a local nonprofit that provides fitness programs, mentorship and resources to youth and families in the Bryan-College Station area.

How the event works

Reps for a Reason is a partner-based fitness event. Organizers are encouraging participants to sign up with a current or former mentor, or someone who has made a positive impact in their life. Team divisions include male/male and female/female pairings. A kids division is also available, making the event open to ages 6 and up.

Participants are encouraged to bring tents, chairs and additional friends and family to cheer on competitors.

Why mentorship is central to the event

FYR Aggieland’s Fitness Mentor Program connects youth with role models through movement and shared experiences. The organization said the Texas A&M Brotherhood of Aggie Mentors supports that program directly.

“Mentorship builds confidence, accountability, and direction in a really practical way,” organizers said.

More information about the Texas A&M Brotherhood of Aggie Mentors is available at tamubam.org.

The cost is $30/team and registration is online.

Where proceeds go

All funds raised through Reps for a Reason go directly to FYR Aggieland. The organization uses donations to support free and low-cost fitness programs for youth and teens, fund its Fitness Mentor Program, provide equipment and transportation, offer Career Exploration experiences, and assist families with race participation, tutoring and other resources.

FYR Aggieland also hosts a free monthly Meet Up program at Sawed-Off CrossFit, featuring activities such as biking, swimming and running. Families in need of equipment such as bikes or shoes can contact the organization at FYRAggieland@gmail.com.
