PEORIA (25News Now) – A beauty shop owner inside Twin Towers Mall said she is facing eviction within days over accusations she denies, saying she believes the new property management company is trying to force her out.
Leandria Thomas, the owner of Luvleeway, has operated the business at the mall location for nearly two years.
In a heated exchange that broke out at the Twin Towers Mall Thursday afternoon, Thomas confronted Lueshand Nunn, one of the owners of Make Solutions LLC, the new management company for Twin Towers Mall. Thomas questioned why she is being forced out.
Nunn told Thomas that witnesses reported smelling marijuana coming from the beauty shop and that a police report has been filed. 25News witnessed the exchange, and police follow-up is pending.
Thomas rejected the claim, saying she has never smoked marijuana inside her business. She called the accusations false.
“I know they’re trying to get me out of my lease because they’re changing everything around here illegally, like none of this is right,” Thomas said.
Thomas said the timing of the eviction is especially difficult because she has already opened bookings for next month. She added that she does not plan to renew her lease in September.
“I worked hard for my business that I have now. I feel like everyone else worked hard. We’re getting pushed out by the new owners who’s going to have a hard time putting people in here who want to pay the amount that she’s trying to put out,” Thomas said.
Nunn declined to go on camera but said she plans to send a statement with reports regarding the building.
Thomas is not the first business owner to complain about the rising rent prices. Several owners recently spoke out about the change, saying they feel like they are stuck with an impossible choice to make.
The new rents go into effect March 1.
