Fresh sunlight and 96-inch monitors now greet members at the Geneva Family YMCA’s newly opened Fitness Center.

The Y opened the renovated space Tuesday morning, Feb. 24, marking a major milestone in a busy month of upgrades at its William Street facility.

Earlier this month, staff vacated the upstairs Weight Room and moved equipment to a new first-floor space. They retired some machines and accepted delivery of new equipment.

Crews have also worked to finish the Adult Locker Rooms. Workers installed vanities, new porcelain fixtures, ceiling treatments and lighting. Bathroom partitions, lockers and final touches remain.

Members now use the new Fitness Center, which features new and refurbished machines along with large 96-inch monitors added this week. The next additions will include day-lockers and a designated area for members to change shoes.

Work continues in the gymnasium. Crews are completing the floor installation. Once finished, they will stripe the court, replace backboards and begin scheduling classes and open gym time.

After the gym and locker room upgrades wrap up, attention will shift to renovating the current front desk area. During that work, members will use a temporary entrance while crews renovate the lobby and main entrance.

Nearly all classes and programs have returned to the William Street building. Childcare and Tuesday night TRX remain at alternate locations for now.

The updates were shared in a project announcement sent Feb. 27.
