HOLLISTON, Mass. (WBZ NewsRadio) — A wellness studio in Holliston has gained a lot of attention online.
The owner of CANēY Salt + Wellness Studio, Laura Curley, makes online videos for social media to show off the studio and she said the voiceover she did in her last video said, “I salt my kiddos, and you should too.”
Salting your kiddos meaning taking your kids to a halotherapy session, Laura said there are natural benefits to breathing in the salty air during this kind of active experience.
“Salt is mucolytic, so by having it delivered in a place like this, you’re getting it to travel deeper into the nasal passages,” Curley said.
The active salt rooms have salt blocks on the walls, and a “Saltbox,” a salt-filled room for the children to play in like a sandbox.

Curley has a Health Care MBA and said she and her husband opened this studio after she saw benefits for herself through halotherapy.
She started using halotherapy a couple of years ago to help out with her severe asthma, which she’s had since childhood.
“I’ve had three life-threatening events as a child, so I know what it is to be a child with difficulty breathing,” Curley said.
Curley said breathing in the microscopic salt particles in this active setting can help with respiratory issues.
Cleveland Clinic said there is a lack of science-based research, although it does state that salt therapy and active salt therapy like this is considered safe and that some say it helps reduce inflammation and clear your lungs.
Dr. Melissa Young, a Certified Functional Medicine specialist at the Cleveland Clinic, said there are a lack of clinical trials, but some studies show that people with asthma have experienced positive health effects.
