For those wanting to kickstart their day in a manner that bolsters long-term wellbeing, a straightforward tweak to your morning routine might do the trick. Health guru and celebrated biohacker Gary Brecka shared his wisdom on The Diary of a CEO podcast.

“Number one is upon waking I would drink mineralised water,” he advised host Steven Bartlett. “I would take 10 ounces of water and I would add either a Celtic sea salt or a Baja gold salt to my water.”

Brecka’s rationale is straightforward: the majority of us are lacking in trace minerals such as boron, manganese, molybdenum, and selenium. “You’re not talking about table salt here,” he stressed, noting that Baja gold sea salt stands out as likely the finest salt for human consumption, boasting all 91 trace minerals.

Celtic sea salt serves as another excellent choice, delivering over 80 trace minerals that aid hydration, electrolyte equilibrium, and general cellular performance, as outlined in research from the Journal of Trace Elements in Medicine and Biology. These minerals contribute to heart health, nerve operation, and lowering persistent inflammation.

Brecka cautions against standard table salt, which consists primarily of sodium chloride and is devoid of the advantageous trace minerals present in natural sea salts. “Only about 75% of that sodium crystal is actually sodium,” he noted, “the rest is all of these trace minerals”, reports the Mirror.

Pink Himalayan salt is occasionally put forward as an option, but recent studies highlight that certain imports might harbour heavy metals owing to mining methods, especially those originating from China.

The Food Chemistry journal reports that responsibly sourced sea salts such as Baja Gold undergo testing for microplastics and glyphosates at levels as low as 250 parts per billion.

Incorporating mineral-dense sea salt into your morning water can assist in restoring electrolytes depleted during sleep, promote healthy blood pressure levels, and enhance hydration effectiveness, as outlined in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition. Brecka further advises steering clear of table salt altogether, given that excessive sodium chloride consumption is associated with heightened risks of hypertension and cardiovascular disease.

Forget Mary Poppins’ spoonful of sugar – simply a teaspoon of premium sea salt in your morning water, as Brecka suggests, might be sufficient to bolster your long-term wellbeing.
