The Maine Celtics hosted an event Thursday to teach local kids about nutrition as part of the team’s “Fit to Win” program.Members of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Southern Maine took part in a food preparation competition at the Residence Inn alongside Maine Celtics players.The goal was to create a meal filled with healthy, nutritious ingredients for a panel of judges.“It’s been great from my perspective to see how we can make nutrition more of a focus for kids,” said Elijah Whitehead, a spokesperson for Sun Life U.S.Maine Celtics forward Hank Morgan said seeing professional athletes emphasize healthy habits can resonate with young people.“I think when kids see players — professional players who are older than they are — being responsible about how they eat and putting a lot of work into taking care of their bodies, it means a lot more than just their parents saying it because they’re used to that,” Morgan said.This is the 12th year the Celtics organization has partnered with Sun Life U.S. on the program.
