More than 300 runners laced their boots to raise money for the cancer wellness center in Wilkes-Barre.

WILKES-BARRE, Pa. — Prior to parade day in Wilkes-Barre, around 300 runners took off in the inaugural Shamrock 5K.

NEPA racing hosted the event as a way to bring the community together before the St. Paddy’s Day festivities officially kicked off.

“We love doing this. We love to give back to the community, but it does make me feel good. My mom was recently diagnosed with cancer, so it’s, personally, it means a lot that we can give back on a day like today,” said NEPA Racing Director David Bass.

Participants finished the course on Wilkes-Barre’s public square with awards being presented after the race.

Organizers say money from the 5k will go towards the cancer wellness center in Wilkes-Barre.
