Health Minister Balbir Singh told the Punjab Assembly on Monday that the state government had started the testing of health supplements used by gym-goers for traces of toxins, steroids, heavy metals and pesticides.

He said the testing was being conducted with the help of Punjab Agriculture University and Guru Angad Dev Veterinary and Animal Sciences University. The results will be out in six months.

The issue cropped up during the question hour on a question asked by Rampura Phul AAP MLA Balkar Singh Sidhu on the issue of adulteration in milk products.

He said that due to adulteration in milk products, people were facing diseases.

The minister said that the adulteration in milk products increased during the festival season.
