L’Oréal Groupe has expanded its partnership with artificial intelligence (AI) chipmaker Nvidia to ramp up its predictive AI science, developing a new engine for rapid formulation discovery.
This enhanced collaboration integrates Nvidia’s Alchemi machine learning framework into the French beauty giant’s research and innovation (R&I) ecosystem, aiming to “accelerate” beauty innovation through AI-driven computational chemistry.
L’Oréal originally partnered with Nvidia in June 2025 to “supercharge” its beauty experiences with next-gen AI, starting with marketing, scaling 3D digital rendering of L’Oréal products for a fusion of physical AI and gen AI.
This new expansion in the partnership sees Nvidia and L’Oréal creating a beauty and skin care AI engine, which aims to deliver breakthroughs in new formulation discovery by predicting how molecules will perform and interact at an atomic scale.
This will enable the beauty giant to simulate ingredient performance and texture in a virtual environment, empowering scientists to test thousands of variables simultaneously, reducing the transition from laboratory concept to finished product.
For companies working on next-generation beauty solutions, the Cosmetics Business Innovation Awards provide an industry-wide platform to showcase and explain meaningful innovation. Entries open now!
The outcome is described as “a discovery process that is 100 times faster than traditional methods”, read a L’Oréal company statement.
It claims to result in a “more agile innovation process” that will maximise the potential of the group’s proprietary active ingredients for skin protection and preventing premature ageing.
“Our collaboration with Nvidia brings definitively a new dimension into our L’Oréal research labs,” said Barbara Lavernos, Deputy CEO in charge of Research, Innovation and Technology at L’Oréal.
“By applying AI-powered molecular simulation to our most proprietary actives, we are bridging atomic scale discovery with real-world consumer benefit.
“Accelerating the development of more effective, more sensorial and accessible products for consumers around the world.”
This news is the latest move by L’Oréal in leading the charge in integrating AI into its operations, products and beauty technology.
L’Oréal presented this next-generation predictive formulation science at the Nvidia GTC AI Conference in San Jose, California, on 17 March.

Azita Martin, VP and General Manager of AI for Retail and Consumer Packaged Goods, Nvidia, commented: “By integrating Nvidia Alchemi into its research and development (R&D) workflows, L’Oréal can simulate ingredient performance at an atomic scale.
“Accelerating breakthrough discoveries in formulation, and delivering advanced beauty and preventive products to consumers.”
L’Oréal and Nvidia have a history of collaborating.
The two organisations have worked together on other AI-powered innovations, including Creaitech – L’Oréal’s gen AI content platform, which develops and uses 3D digital renderings of products for the development of marketing and advertising campaigns.
