Organization to host Black Family Wellness Expo

The Fort Wayne Chapter of The Links Inc. will host the Black Family Wellness Expo on Saturday.

The free event is open from the public from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Renaissance Pointe YMCA, 2323 Bowser Ave., Fort Wayne.

The expo will provide information about various wellness topics, including access to immunizations, financial literacy and voter awareness, a news release said. The event will also have drawings for giveaways, including grocery store gift cards and YMCA memberships.

The local event will be one of many across the country for The Links Inc.’s National Impact Day of Service.

“We are excited to partner with a diverse group of vendors and health professionals who are committed to helping families live healthier, stronger lives,” Angie Wortham, local chapter president, said in a statement. “This event is not only informative – it’s a celebration of community and wellness for all.”

University to dedicate St. Francis Drive

The newly named St. Francis Drive will be dedicated and blessed Monday, the University of Saint Francis said Wednesday.

The portion of Leesburg Road between Spring and Main streets was recently renamed in honor of the university. The newly named portion will continue to Jefferson Boulevard when the extension is complete, the news release said.

“St. Francis Drive serves as a fitting tribute to St. Francis of Assisi as we celebrate this Jubilee Year of St. Francis, as proclaimed by Pope Leo XIV,” President Lance Richey said in a statement. “We hope that this renaming will be of assistance as a wayfinding sign for those visiting the University of Saint Francis.”

The public event will be at 3 p.m. Monday near the intersection of St. Francis Drive and Spring Street.
