Timmel customizes her sessions for whatever her clients are looking for.

“I work with people looking to add muscle, and others that want to lose 30 pounds,” Timmel said. “Parents will sign up young athletes (hockey, soccer, golf) for customized strength training. I also work with a lot of people that come out of surgery, like hip or knee replacements. Typically, their physical therapist will tell them to exercise to keep their muscles strong. They might go to join the gym and ask about a personal trainer. Then I’ll do a consult to find out how I can help them.”

Timmel starts with a free 30 minute consultation to gain insight to what a person is looking for. “We’re just basically having a conversation together,” Timmel said. “If I feel the need to, I will have them do a couple of movements with me, just to see where they’re sitting physically.”

Then a plan is formed and Timmel customizes fitness sessions for the individual based on their goals. Regular sessions are 60 minutes. People can choose to do sessions once or twice a week, or even every other week based on their preference. Exercising at Spring Creek Athletic Club requires a gym membership or purchasing a day pass. Home visits are also an option, with Timmel bringing fitness equipment with her or using what a client already owns.

Inspiration struck Timmel as an athlete at Lake Shore High School.

“I was involved with sports when I was in high school,” Timmel said. “I did lacrosse for the main portion, along with track and field, and tennis. We did a lot of strength training in sports. I wanted to kind of continue that route in college at Buffalo State University. I graduated in 2020 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Health and Wellness and got certified as a personal trainer. I’ve had friends that have done bodybuilding shows, and that to me was kind of an inspiration for how the body can change, or what it can adapt to in a certain timeframe.”

“As a trainer, guiding my clients to accomplish their goals is so fulfilling. It’s awesome to see the progress they make. And honestly, 99% of the time they’re surpassing what they thought they could do.”

Timmel offers a few tips for people first starting out.

“One huge tip that I always suggest to all of my clients and people coming to see me is drinking water first thing in the morning. Before you even reach for coffee, get a bottle of water. Drinking that is kick-starting everything in your body, you’ll be able to burn calories a little bit quicker during the day. It makes all the difference. Sleep is also huge. Being able to get more sleep is great for recovery, brain health and all around circulation. And keeping up your motivation is important. If you want to do something, you will.”

Timmel enjoys living and working in Springville and thinks everyone should give exercise a try.

“I like the convenience of living in Springville, for sure,” Timmel said. “Our stores are super close and we have everything. And it’s a good community. Everybody’s pretty nice around Springville. And for exercising, there’s no harm in trying something new. At the end of the day, you’re trying to better yourself. A lot of the time you’re putting energy into other things such as work. Why not put in the energy into doing something for yourself?”
