Welcome to the Wellness Edit, a place where I share my must-have products for a healthy life, carefully cultivated during my 14 years as health and fitness editor (nearly nine of them at Prevention). In this time, I’ve come across and tested hundreds of products—it’s one of the perks of the job! Most of my apartment essentials are items I’ve either taken for a test-drive or loved enough to spend my own money on, and one of my favorite parts of all of this has been sharing the most worthwhile ones with you, now in The Wellness Edit.
I’m not just Prevention’s senior health editor, fitness + nutrition on paper, I literally live out my title every day; I’m a wellness fanatic, but in a down-to-earth kind of way. I prioritize exercise (and genuinely love it), enjoy cooking and eating well (a produce deal hates to see me coming!), have self-care rituals that are non-negotiable, and I work hard at managing stress. But I approach all of those good-for-you habits in a balanced manner—some days I choose the couch over the gym or have a “girl dinner” that doesn’t hit all the food groups—so as not to get burnt out on my mission to stay well.
My job allows me to discover tons of products to support my wellness-centric lifestyle, and each month I’ll be sharing a handful of picks that I’m loving right now or just can’t live without. You can expect to see my favorite fitness gear, essentials for a clean home, beauty products that are worth your dollars, my go-to healthy food that you just have to taste, tools for better sleep, and so much more.
March is when my impatience for sun and warmer temps really peaks—I’m 101% done with winter! This month likes to swing between freezing rain and spring breezes depending on the day, but I am best able to cope by sticking to my wintertime routine. Then, I start slotting in a few of my springtime ones as a way to brighten my days and keep my mind focused on the sunnier, warmer prize. That looks like maintaining my exercise and muscle-recovery regimen, giving my scalp some self-care so it can stay flake- and frizz-free during changing of the seasons, and experimenting in the kitchen so I have exciting new healthy meals to make with all of the spring superfoods. Check out the essentials that will help me welcome spring as happily and healthfully as possible below.
1) TheraGun Mini Plus Massage Gun by Therabody
I am someone who loves (and needs!) to exercise and hit 10,000 daily steps, so I prioritize muscle recovery—it’s key to staying active. A handheld massager is one of my go-tos; these devices use percussive and vibration therapy to increase blood flow to tissues, easing muscle discomfort and tension to promote mobility and flexibility. Besides soothing achiness from activity, it loosens you up after bouts of sitting at work or during travel. This TheraBody model is used by pro athletes like NFL MVP Josh Allen. Its compact size is perfect when I’m on the go, and the ergonomic design makes it easy to hold and maneuver—I can access all of my problem spots (including the hard-to-reach muscles around my thoracic spine). It also has heat settings for max relief.

Alyssa Jung2) Ka’Chava All-In-One Nutrition Shake
When I don’t have time to eat a full meal, I’ve been turning to Ka’Chava, a powder with more than just protein. It provides the essentials—25 g of plant protein, 6 g of fiber, and 85 vitamins, minerals, and superfoods per serving to fuel my brain, muscles, and gut. Each ingredient undergoes rigorous third-party testing for quality and safety, including for heavy metals like lead. Every flavor is delish, but strawberry is by far my favorite—I’m halfway through my last bag and will definitely be restocking before spring really ramps up.

Alyssa Jung3) Bentgo Modern Lunchbox
Packing a work lunch helps you stay on the healthy-eating track and saves you some bucks. This bento-style lunchbox has “revolutionized” meal prep and portion control for our Senior Commerce Editor, Charlotte Finigan. She shared with me how it has separate compartments that serve as visual reminders to include a variety of foods like fruits and veggies, protein, and healthy carbs, and it’s perfect for themed lunches, like charcuterie or desk tacos. I like to keep my lunches healthy, nourishing, and light so that I have more flexibility with what to make for dinner, so a bento-style container like this is right up my alley!

Amazon4) IQBAR Plant Protein Bar (7-Pack)
Meet my latest dessert obsession. These bars are absurdly tasty—they have no added sugar and deliver 12 g of protein, plus fiber and lion’s mane, a functional mushroom with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties (some research suggests it offers brain benefits too). They are made from a plant-based protein blend and real nuts to give them a fun crispy crunch. My faves (if I have to choose) are chocolate mint chip, banana nut, wild blueberry, and chocolate sea salt—I suggest starting with a sampler pack to find yours!

Alyssa Jung5) Sky Organics Organic Rosemary Strong Roots Oil
I’ve got a lot of long hair, and it takes a lot of work to keep it looking and feeling healthy and strong—especially during colder months when dry air can make my head and scalp feel, well, dry. That’s why I appreciate Organic Rosemary Strong Roots Oil, a hair oil that I use a couple of times a week; it has rosemary, macadamia, and jojoba oils, and I massage it into my scalp to fight flaking and irritation before shampooing; after my shower, I work a few drops in while my hair is damp for softness and shine. It’s also great for keeping my strands smooth during frizzy-weather days.

Flavor makes healthy eating exciting—nobody dreads a meal packed with good-taste! Spiceology is a great resource for seasoning explorers, offering single spices, blends, and salt-free options from lots of different cuisines (Jamaican Jerk, Korean BBQ, and Greek Freak are just a few standouts). And the popcorn seasonings jazz up my go-to p.m. snack. Alyssa Jung7) Salt & Stone Deodorant
I sweat easily, and I’ve always used extra-strength deodorant to keep me smelling presentable. But now I’m on a mission to use products with as few ingredients as possible (ideally natural ones) in all areas of my life. I tried Salt & Stone deodorants, which rely on prebiotics to promote a balanced skin microbiome to help keep stink-causing bacteria in check; they also have skin-friendly stuff like shea butter, and the scents are subtle. After hustling through my days and sweating in my sleep, I’m all good. I don’t have to reapply as often, either, so it lasts.
