I’m generally not one to be pressed about a celebrity beauty brand launch (sorry, I’m jaded!), but when Cécred—the hair-care brainchild of Beyoncé and her mom, Miss Tina—debuted in February 2024, it piqued my interest. Its Foundation Collection served as a smart launchpad for a brand catering to all hair types—a lineup of eight wash day essentials powered by a patent-pending bio-fermented keratin that’s bio-identical to that found in human hair to strengthen damaged strands. A clarifying shampoo, deep conditioner, and protein treatment, some of my personal favorites, were reminders that a clean scalp sets the tone for a healthy head of hair. If it’s good enough for Bey, I thought, then it’s certainly good enough for me.
I was again pleased by its second iteration—the Protection Collection, launched in August 2025—that took a different approach. Via five hair-refreshing solutions housed in sleek royal blue bottles, this line sought to detox the hair and scalp for install to takedown. I found its Detangling Spray sublime for removing knotless braids and sew-ins, and its Scalp Refreshing Spray shockingly effective at cleansing without water. However, despite my appreciation for both collections, I yearned for Beyoncé-approved salves for my day-to-day styling. So imagine my surprise when I learned about Cécred’s third act: a Styling Collection, now available to shop.
The Cécred team felt styling was a natural and necessary extension. “We’d already built a healthy foundation with our Foundation and Protection collections, and now with Styling, we can make sure the way we finish the hair supports everything that came before it,” says Beyonce’s hairstylist Neal Farinah. He goes on to explain that in development, performance and protection were top of mind—and “performed” it did. Turns out, this collection played a major role in perfecting the superstar’s hair throughout her famed Cowboy Carter tour.
“There’s nothing like facing the elements on tour,” Farinah tells Vogue with a laugh. Be it sweat, extreme humidity, wind, quick changes, multiple styles in one night, and restyling the same section over and over, products had to meet exceptional standards. “If it couldn’t survive movement and moisture and still look incredible under lights in front of everyone, it didn’t make it. The tour was the best test, because we faced pretty much every element, we saw it all. And I have to say, the hair still looked so good through it all.”
What I appreciate most about this collection is that it prioritizes style longevity without compromising hair health. In identifying that styling is where most people get damage (think: heat, tugging, pulling, sleeking, etc), the team sought to support and protect the structure of the hair fiber via built in protection across five styling goals: volume, definition, hold, smoothness, longevity, per Kari Williams, PhD, trichologist, and director of education at Cécred. From there, they landed on six stylers enriched with the brand’s StemShield Complex for 450 degrees Fahrenheit heat and humidity protection. Scientifically, this complex reinforces the hair fiber to style without compromising curl integrity.
The premise is simple enough—safeguarding the hair while you’re straightening for a bouncy blowout or sleeking it back into a snatched ponytail—but in practice, it’s easier said than done. Dr. Williams says that “maintaining movement while delivering robust protection and style longevity was the most technically complex piece of the puzzle,” as stronger hold and humidity resistance often requires heavy ingredients. However, each of the six stylers is remarkably lightweight.
In my initial trial of this collection, I met with the Cécred team and asked for a combination of Cécred’s signature voluminous blowout and its sleek Silk Glaze style. Post-shampoo and condition, the Thermal Shield Mist was non-negotiable. I’d liken it to a traditional heat protectant that dispenses as a super-fine non-sticky spray. I’m not hip to the mousse game, so I was interested in seeing how the Volumizing Mousse held up (it’s Farinah’s favorite product from the collection for touchable, flexible hold that doesn’t collapse). “You can use it for a big blowout, a roller set, diffusing curls, and more. I’ve used it for everything, from Beyoncé Bowl curls to big body Cécred blowouts.” The secret is to coat it on damp hair, then create tension as you dry with a round brush; that way, your hair can better hold the lift and curl.
