K-beauty retailer Olive Young is accelerating its international expansion strategy with the appointment of its first-ever US CEO, Gaeun Kwon.

The South Korean beauty and health retailer  has also established its first North American logistics centre in Bloomington, California, to strengthen its US supply chain.

Kwon brings more than a decade of experience in the US market to the role, and will lead Olive Young’s next growth phase as it looks to open its first US store locations in California.

Prior to this she served as Director of Global Business for the retailer’s South Korean arm.

Kwon  has worked for Olive Young since December 2011, when she joined as an Assistant Merchandiser.

“For more than two decades, Olive Young has helped shape how consumers discover and engage with beauty in Korea,” said Kwon.

“And our next focus is the US, a market we have been preparing for with intention and care.”

To help facilitate its growth in the US, Olive Young’s new North American logistics centre (pictured) in Bloomington will support both international and US-based beauty brands distributed through the retailer.

This aims to deliver greater operational stability, improved service speed, and a more seamless retail experience for consumers across the states.

“Our goal in the US is to build a differentiated platform on a strong, sustainable foundation,” said Kwon.

“Through thoughtful curation and a discovery-driven retail experience that seamlessly connects physical stores and e-commerce, we aim to create long-term value for both consumers and our brand partners.

“By combining Korea’s fast-moving innovation ecosystem with localised market insight, we are committed to building an omnichannel beauty platform that not only introduces new brands and trends, but also fosters deeper consumer education and long-term brand growth.

“We see this as a meaningful contribution to the evolution of the US beauty landscape and the next chapter of K-beauty’s global expansion.”

US beauty retailer Sephora recently entered into a ‘strategic’ partnership with Olive Young, which sees the two organisations create a “strategic” omnichannel partnership to deliver “cutting-edge and sought-after Korean beauty” products in dedicated zones in Sephora’s stores and websites.
