If any musical duo has fashion world credibility, it has to be Sofi Tukker. The co-founders Sophie Hawley-Weld and Tucker Halpern just walked the red carpet for the Vanity Fair Oscars Party (even after Vanity Fair cut the guest list in half), and are known for their high fashion shoots wearing Rick Owens, Louis Vuitton, Pucci and Balenciaga in Nylon, Flood and Ocean Drive.
The colorful duo are known for combining musical genres, like Bossa Nova (Hawley-Weld studied Portuguese at Brown University, where she met Halpern), house music, Latin-infused EDM and rock, with dreamy live vocals and guitar riffs during their DJ-heavy sets.
Now, they have teamed up with female-founded athletic wear brand Beyond Yoga for a recent event in the leafy Franklin Canyon Park in Los Angeles to celebrate the Spring Equinox.
It’s part of Seek Beyond, a new platform that Beyond Yoga started last year, and kicked it off with an anthem created by award-winning actor, writer and director Issa Rae (it marked their first celebrity collaboration since first founding over 20 years ago). The brand has 10 stores across the country, with locations in Century City, Houston, Greenwich, Westport and more stores planned to open in 2026.
Beyond Yoga, which was acquired by Levi’s in 2021, celebrates progress over perfection. Instead of being a performance-obsessed athletic wear brand, they are focused on the journey and the joy of wellness.

“It’s super aligned with everything that we do and how we live our lives,” said Halpern, who spends much of the year on tour with Hawley-Weld. They’re currently doing a residency at Wynn Las Vegas at XS Nightclub.
Staying healthy on tour is never easy. “Sophie has been a little more regimented with her routines,” said Halpern.
Hawkey-Weld says prioritizing sleep is a huge help, so does weight training three days a week while touring and bringing a high-energy set to each performance. “I’m also sober,” she said. “We get enough protein and fiber and try not to eat too many artificial things. I don’t think we try to strive for perfection, but we do our best by living on the road full-time. And I think that is the key; to not be too hard on yourself if you miss a day because you didn’t get enough sleep.”
Eating healthy is key but so is self-forgiveness. “Sophie used to get frustrated when she couldn’t do exactly the right thing for her health; I used to also think that I had to work out every day and eat perfectly all the time,” said Halpern. “It was honestly too much pressure and wasn’t good for my health, so I’m a lot looser now. Loving what we do is probably how and why we’re able to stay healthy.”
It drives the duo to take an athlete-like approach to their ability to perform (Halpern, who is 6 ‘7″, played college basketball). “We try to always remember that people paid money to come see us. And how cool is that? So, we have to give them our best.”
Even though 2016 is having a moment in pop culture, ironically, Sofi Tukker started that year and released their debut LP, Soft Animals). That led to them founding their record label Animal Talk, which ran for four years, “but we just didn’t have the bandwidth to keep it going,” said Halpern. The duo signed with Republic Records last month, with a new song called “Cook” that was created in collaboration with J Balvin.

The duo just started a new management company and lifestyle brand called Animal Talk. They have partnered with Miles Shear, founder of Palm Tree Management, and are the first artists to be managed by Animal Talk.
“We want to have our own ethos, our own sound and our own world,” said Halpern. “It’s going to be based around performing dance artists, because there are so many DJs and then there’s bands. And then there’s this weird middle ground where we’ve always kind of had to forge through the forest on our own. Right now, we are just building.”
As he explains: “People think, ‘they’re not live enough to be on the live band stage but they’re not DJ enough to be at this club,’” he explains. “But there’s a lot of actual performing dance artists misfits. And we can bring that as a real genre and a real thing.”
It almost deserves its own genre title: “performing dance artists.” Just look at some of the artists on Palm Tree Management, like Victoria Nadine or Forester, or indie electro acts like DJ Psychiatre, who Sofi Tukker weaves into their live sets.
Their same approach to community is echoed in the recent Beyond Yoga event, which brings together superfans of the brand offline for community-driven events.
The event had a pop-up pastel yellow booth selling exclusive merch, including tees and sweaters (fleece hoodies, zip ups) alongside mirrored photo ops, a “disco tree” with gold disco balls hanging from a century-old tree, sandwiches and drinks from Joe & The Juice, and a guided hike throughout the park.
It just goes to show how crucial offline time is. “I think the algorithms do their best at keeping us sucked in,” said Hawley-Weld. “But luckily our job is very much an IRL experience, I think it is really refreshing for most of our job to be about in-person experiences. But another part is posting and being online. And I think it’s essential.”

The balancing act between being online and offline is key. “It’s definitely a huge part of our mental health,” she adds. “When I have to remind myself to look away from my phone or laptop, I’m instantly happier.”
Hawley-Weld, whose favorite business books include The Art of Spending Money and The Psychology of Money, both by Morgan Housel, extends the messages of the books to her philosophy around success, but also social media.
“The ultimate takeaway from the book, The Psychology of Money, is ‘let money be a tool for you, rather than you become a tool for money,’” she said. “And I think a lot of people in the pursuit of success end up forgetting why they’re doing it in the first place. And I think the same is true with social media. We need to use social media as a tool. It’s a useful tool and I think it’s worthwhile. But you must be conscious of that turning point where suddenly it’s not a tool of yours anymore. You’re kind of in service of it.”
