TYLER, Texas (KETK) — The East Texas Food Bank Resource Center held a wellness fair for Tyler residents on Tuesday. The event provided several medical options, including health screenings, vaccines and STD testing.

Over 1.3 million pounds of food to East Texas Food Bank donated from Dollar General in 2025

The fair was designed as a “one-stop shop” for healthy living resources beyond food assistance. Food bank officials decided to offer the services again this year, building on the success of a similar wellness fair held a year ago.

Kyler Matthews, the Tyler Resource Center Specialist for the East Texas Food Bank, said the organization intends to be more than just a source for food.

The fair emphasized preventive care by providing direct access to services that might otherwise be difficult for residents to obtain. Organizers chose to include health screenings and STD testing to address a wide range of wellness needs among visitors to the resource center.

“This actually helps the community quite a bit because we don’t want to be just a one-stop shop just for food,” Matthews said. “We want to be a one-stop shop for all the resources as well. So when they’re coming in, they’re going to be able to get those things. We want to be able to prevent different things in the world. So we want to be able to provide those resources and just get the help that we can give those people.”

The East Texas Food Bank hopes to host a wellness fair every year.
