The Montgomery Police Department is allowing potential recruits to find out whether they have the physical skills needed to become a police officer.

Today at the department’s training center, fitness tryouts were held. Sixteen people came out to experience physical training,  to speak directly with recruiters and to complete their application for our next police academy class.

The Montgomery Police Department is offering a $15,000 recruiting incentive for new hires, along with free and discounted college tuition through Auburn University at Montgomery, Troy University and Faulkner University.

“This is the first one we’re doing this month,” Montgomery Police Chief James Graboys told Action 8 News. “Next month, we’re going to do two more on April 8 at 9AM and on April 18 at 9AM. We are going to hold open tryouts. We do want people to go and fill out applications even if you haven’t filled out an application, if you want to try out for our agency, come on out on those days.”
