ROANOKE, Va. (WDBJ) – 2026 Virginia Teacher of the Year Matthew Neale and Niles Comer from Partnership for Community Wellness joined Here @ Home to talk about how the English teacher implements community wellness into the classroom.
Subjects he deals with include vaping and addiction. That began after he read Beth Macy’s book “Dopesick”, and lost two former students to the opioid crisis, and wanted to share information on being safe and healthy.
Neale teaches at Hidden Valley High School in Roanoke County.
