Alpha Kappa Alpha hosts ‘a pretty girl’s day out’ to promote wellness for Metro area women

The Rho Lambda Omega Chapter welcomed about 100 women to a day of yoga, meditation, and self-care, while supporting local maternal and child health initiatives.

Women across the metro area gathered on Saturday for a day focused on wellness and self-care. Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.’s Rho Lambda Omega Chapter hosted “A Pretty Girl’s Day Out” in Jackson. The event was free for the public and was designed to promote inner peace and mental wellness. It featured yoga, guided meditation, and therapy sessions. A fireside chat also provided strategies to manage stress during challenging times.“As women, we’re busy. We lead busy lives being mothers, wives, co-workers, bosses and we wanted to restore peace to people,” said Rho Lambda Omega Chapter President Dawn Magee. “That’s one of our themes today. It’s called a Pretty Girl’s Day Out, it’s ‘Be in Peace, Not in Pieces,’ and it’s to help women learn how to restore their personal peace.”Organizers say about 100 women participated in the event, which also featured food, vendors, and door prizes. Guests were encouraged to give back by donating diapers and period products to support local maternal and child health initiatives.
