Gothenburg Public Schools hosted a district speech meet on Wednesday, March 18, which meant that classes could not be held in the high school/junior high building as classrooms were being utilized for speech events. Rather than the GPS 7th-12th-grade students recording a non-instructional day, the school counselor team came up with a unique and fun idea.

Last Wednesday, the school hosted its first Wellness Fair – an interactive event that incorporated elements of physical and emotional well-being, specifically geared toward teens. Stations were set up in the north gym of the school, as well as the Impact Center, and outside on the practice field and the swimming pool parking lot. Groups of students rotated between the stations that included nutrition, financial decisions, personal safety, yoga, mental health, and much more.

Outside, students toured a Gothenburg ambulance, learned about equine therapy, and had an opportunity to experience what it might look like to drive impaired.

The Wellness Fair took a great deal of planning and organizing, but by all accounts was a huge success.
