A fitness influencer was shot and killed in broad daylight outside a gym in Brazil. It is a shocking incident that has left the local community searching for answers.
Roberto Cunha Lima, 46, was fatally shot by a man on a motorcycle as he left a gym in the Stella Maris neighborhood of Salvador.
Authorities say the suspect fled the scene immediately. It has prompted a manhunt as police work to identify and locate the shooter.
Influencer killed outside Brazil gym in targeted shooting
The incident took place on Wednesday, March 25, according to local outlet G1.
Lima, known online as Beto Cunha, had built a modest following of over 7,000 people on Instagram. He shared fitness advice and insights from his decades-long career.
His profile described him as a personal trainer at Vida Fitness, with nearly 30 years of experience helping clients improve their health.
He promoted a straightforward approach to fitness, emphasizing “no magic formulas. Just the facts.”
In one of his final posts, shared on March 11, Cunha spoke about the importance of guiding children toward healthier eating habits.
“Kids aren’t mature enough to make conscious food choices every day,” he wrote. “They need guidance, example and boundaries.”
“Creating a healthy eating environment at home is an act of care, education and responsibility.”
The motive behind the shooting remains unclear. Investigators from the 1st Homicide Division of Salvador are now leading the case.
Brazil grapples with ongoing violence concerns
Cunha’s killing adds to ongoing concerns around violence in Brazil, particularly in major urban areas.
Just months earlier, a large-scale police operation in Rio de Janeiro’s Alemão and Penha favelas resulted in a significant number of deaths.
Reports indicated that as many as 121 people were killed during the October 2025 raid, including four police officers.
The operation involved approximately 2,500 officers and was aimed at dismantling gang activity in the region.
However, BBC Brasil reported inconsistencies between official police reports and prosecutors’ records, raising questions about the outcome of the operation.
Local media also noted that a key gang figure, Edgar Alves de Andrade, known as Doca, was neither captured nor killed during the raid, further fueling debate over its effectiveness.
As the investigation into Cunha’s death continues, authorities have yet to confirm whether the shooting was targeted or random, leaving many unanswered questions in its wake.
