Wales are monitoring Daniel James’ fitness before deciding on his involvement against Northern Ireland on Tuesday, according to yorkshireeveningpost.co.uk.

The Leeds United winger starred in Thursday’s World Cup play-off semi-final, drilling in from range to put Wales 1-0 up. He did not complete 90 minutes, and Wales later lost on penalties after Brennan Johnson and Neco Williams missed.

Despite elimination, Wales must play twice during the break and will host fellow semi-final losers Northern Ireland on Tuesday night. Whether Craig Bellamy goes full strength or rotates has not been confirmed. James is one of four Leeds players still in the squad.

Before the Bosnia tie, the 28-year-old had started only one game for Leeds since a hamstring tendon injury in November, and he arrived in camp after illness. Bellamy said his workload exceeded expectations but he tired, cramped and had to be withdrawn, so staff are checking on him now.

Leeds will be relieved by the cautious stance after his injury-hit season. The winger will be hoping another club start in the FA Cup at West Ham this weekend can reignite his campaign. Bellamy was not quizzed on rotation and could also start Karl Darlow, Joe Rodon and Ethan Ampadu.
