Wellness rituals used to mean drinking a green juice and taking the occasional workout class. Now (thanks to viral TikTok trends), wellness looks more like experimenting with promising powders, standing on vibration plates, and even cleaning our tongues. At Harper’s Bazaar, we’re always on the hunt for the next viral wellness practice—the weirder, the better is my personal motto. But we’re all busy, and not every wellness trend is worth adding to your already-packed routine. Ahead, the unique wellness rituals that our editors swear have drastically improved their lives.

Tongue Scraping

I can’t believe I went years without tongue scraping—it’s quite literally my favorite part of my morning routine. I scrape twice a day when brushing my teeth with a dedicated scraper I picked up in France, but you can buy whatever one you like on Amazon. It’s gross, but I love seeing how much gunk comes off, and it’s made such a difference in how clean my mouth feels. Also, entirely anecdotally, but I also feel like I am sick less often since I started. —Jenna Rosenstein, beauty director

“I’m a pescatarian, so I eat a lot of vegetables by nature. However, I love adding in green-infused powders to ensure I’m getting full servings of nutritious vegetables. My two favorite powders to mix in the morning are Bloom Nutrition greens (I even love the brand’s new gummy vitamin greens for on the go or as a midday snack), which have digestive enzymes to help combat bloat, and Sarah Wragge Alkalize, which is the equivalent of six servings of greens (a rarity in my life) and help detoxify the body.” — Katie Intner, beauty market and commerce editor

Supergreens GummiesDoubling Down on Lymphatic Drainage

“I’m very extra when it comes to wellness, which is why I don’t just have one daily lymphatic drainage ritual, but four. I start every morning on the vibration plate, which has been a hot topic of conversation lately for good reason. This has been great to get my lymphatic system going in the morning. Before I shower, I dry-brush to slough off any dead skin while prepping my lymphatic system for the next step. After applying body wash in the shower, I use a body cup to enhance lymphatic drainage, starting at my legs and working my way up to my arms, always moving towards my lymph nodes. This is a more intense method of promoting lymphatic drainage (and the closest thing to a professional treatment, in my opinion), and you can see the effects almost immediately. Both dry brushing and cupping help push out excess fluid and give me a boost of energy. At night, I use a body oil (I’ve been loving Bio-Oil as it’s unscented and helps fade marks) to perform a lymphatic massage on my stomach, which is especially effective to avoid bloating after a heavy meal.” — KI

Skincare OilMorning Sunlight

“I’m trying to be more intentional about how I start my mornings during the week. Lately, I’ve been basking in a little sunlight within the first hour or so after waking, as I’ve heard that doing so helps realign my circadian rhythm and boost metabolic health. The jury is still out on whether it works (I’ve only just started testing the process), but I will say it is nice to have a moment to commune with nature without immediately reaching for my phone. Plus, I make sure to always wear sunscreen!” —Tiffany Dodson Davis, beauty commerce editor

Screentime Non-Comedogenic Hydrating SunscreenCinnamon-Powered, Skin-Boosting Gel

“I use this spicy cinnamon gel situation that a derm once recommended to increase circulation and reduce cellulite. I usually put it on after the shower, before bed, and it feels like a tingly hot sauce on my skin, leaving my legs completely tomato-red. But I believe in its powers.” —Rosa Sanchez, senior news editor

Derm Zell Aktiv Gel ZimtTwo-Day Hair Oiling

“When I know I’m having a low-key weekend in, with no crazy events, I usually have a night when I rub this silky oil all over my hair and then put it up in a braid bun to soak it all in and get hydrated. I do a deep hair wash like two days later, and it feels so much healthier.” —RS

Saffron Hair Elixir OilDIY Wellness Tea

“I don’t know how weird this is, maybe it’s just a Mexican/Latino thing, but every morning, I boil ginger and make a hot tea with the ginger water, lime (or lemon), and apple cider vinegar. I drink that all before anything else, and it just helps so much with gut health, which basically runs my life now that I’m in my 30s. When I’m in a rush and can’t boil chunks of literal ginger, I use this powder from TJ.” —RS

100% Natural Ginger Drink MixNighttime Manifestation

“I crave nothing more than a good night’s rest, which feels rare to come by after a long day of screentime. I have also succumbed to the manifestation trend and accidentally discovered that subliminal manifestation 7Hz audio videos on YouTube can immediately knock me out. Most nights, I play videos with titles like “Manifest your INNER GODDESS” or “Listen ONCE and you will experience ABUNDANCE” off of my phone and immediately experience a deep sleep with extremely vivid dreams. While I am not totally sure if the manifestation part of these hypnotic videos actually works, I do find drifting off into a deep and undisturbed sleep an addictive experience.” —Claudia Cruz, deputy visuals director

At-Home Massager

“As a former dancer, massages have long been a justifiable splurge for me. If I could get one every day, I would. In the meantime, however, my neck-and-shoulder massager does the trick. Yes, it looks weird from the outset, but I swear it works wonders on my always-tense neck and shoulders. I decided to invest in one when I realized that this muscle tension was the underlying cause of most of my headaches, and I really feel like it’s helped reduce them. My roommate used to think I was out of my mind, but she was an instant convert—and it became the weird wellness thing both of us swear by.” —Nicole Frazzini, senior content strategy manager

Massagers for Neck and Back with HeatDance Breaks

“For me, one of the most effective forms of wellness practice is a mid-day dance break. Yes, you read that right. Since I have a job where I sit at a computer for most of the day, it’s vital for me to get in movement whenever I can. I used to take dance courses in college, but these days, it’s hard to find time to fit in a whole class. But, you know what’s easy? Popping in my headphones for twenty minutes and going crazy in my living room (or even an empty office). Think Hugh Grant dancing in Love Actually, but even more uninhibited. It immediately brings my stress levels down, gets me on my feet, and always helps my mood. It may sound crazy, but the next time you’re alone, try it out for yourself.” —Joel Calfee, assistant editor
