CHARLOTTE, N.C. — SouthPark Community Partners is encouraging residents to get moving this spring with a free weekly fitness series on the SouthPark Loop.
The Spring Fitness Series is held every Tuesday in April on the lawn outside The Colony Apartments. Each session features a different workout led by a local fitness partner, offering a variety of options from yoga and Pilates to high‑intensity interval training.
“This series is all about making fitness accessible and fun for the community,” said Maddie Chase, vice president of marketing and experience with SouthPark Community Partners. “The SouthPark Loop is a shared space, and bringing free workouts outside invites people of all fitness levels to connect, move and feel welcome.”
Participants can also cool down after class with a free cold plunge provided weekly by Sweathouz.
The workouts are free, but organizers ask attendees to register in advance at Spring Fitness on the SouthPark Loop | SouthPark Charlotte.
On April 21, Motion Fitness will take the lead, with Coach Robert Fatone guiding participants through a HYROX‑inspired workout that blends bodyweight strength exercises with cardio intervals.
“People hear ‘HYROX’ and think it’s intimidating, but our goal is to show that this style of functional fitness is approachable for everyone,” Fatone said. “We focus on movements you already know, like lunges, paired with short bursts of cardio.”
Fatone will demonstrate several functional fitness moves, including the burpee broad jump — a staple HYROX movement that often raises eyebrows.
“A burpee broad jump sounds intense, but there are multiple ways to scale it,” he said. “You can adjust the jump, step instead of jump, or break it into parts. Once people try it, they realize they can do more than they expected.”
Organizers say the series is designed to build consistency, create community and encourage people to enjoy outdoor activity in one of Charlotte’s busiest areas.
“Even if you come for just one class, we want it to be a positive experience,” Chase said. “The goal is simple: show up, move your body and have a good time.”
The Spring Fitness Series continues each Tuesday through the end of April.
