WYNCOTE, Pa. (WPVI) — A Planet Fitness employee is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries after being stabbed multiple times in Wyncote, Montgomery County.
Police say first responders were called to the gym in the 1000 block of South Easton Road around 12:33 p.m. Thursday for reports of a stabbing.
That’s where they found a man with multiple stab wounds. He was rushed to an area trauma center.
A male suspect was captured a short distance away by responding officers, police said.
“There were cops everywhere. The crime scene investigation van was out there, and they were doing evidence collection and stuff like that,” said Ed Cunane of Southampton, Pa.

According to police, the suspect, who had been previously banned from the gym, got into an altercation with the employee shortly before the stabbing. Police say the suspect had been at the gym twice on Thursday, causing a disturbance.
“It’s a little scary. I thought it was more of a secure, safe place,” said George Kanattu, who came to work out at the gym on Thursday.
The suspect, who was also hospitalized, has not been identified.
Police say no other injuries were reported and that the incident remains under investigation.
“At Planet Fitness, the safety and well-being of our team members and members is our top priority. We are saddened by the incident that took place at our Cheltenham location,” a spokesperson said in a statement. “Our thoughts are with the team member as they recover. Anyone with information or who may have witnessed the incident is asked to contact Cheltenham Detectives at 215.885.1600 or email policetips@cheltenhampa.gov. Police say tipsters can remain anonymous.
